“Our comprehensive roadmap is ready to build the critically important charging infrastructure” said Mr. Varank, Minister of Industry and Technology of Turkey.
The “Electric Vehicles and Electric Vehicle Charging Systems – Basic Terms and Definitions” standard has been prepared and published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE).
Making statements about the standard, Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said, “We have prepared a comprehensive roadmap to build the charging infrastructure, which is critical for the development of electric vehicles, especially TOGG in Turkey. In order to mature the charging ecosystem in a short time, we have determined the steps to be taken in important topics such as technical standards, legislative regulations and investment supports. This standard published by TSE also constitutes the basis and first step of the studies.”
Prepared with the participation of stakeholders
In his statement, Minister Varank said that the terms and definitions standard was prepared with the participation of the stakeholders in the sector. Stating that the term and definition standard will contribute to the formation of a common language in technical regulations, Minister Varank said:
A sector that will grow fast
Electric vehicle sales have been increasing rapidly at the global level in recent years. In the coming years, we will use more electric vehicles in our daily lives. According to our projections, more than 2 million electric vehicles will be on the roads by 2030. A significant part of this will undoubtedly be TOGG. More than 200,000 public charging points will be needed to serve this capacity. In this regard, the charging infrastructure will grow very rapidly along with electric vehicles in the coming years.
Infrastructure will be ready
Turkey’s Automobile carries out its work in line with the set schedule. As the Ministry of Industry and Technology, we are making the necessary infrastructure preparations together with other relevant ministries. When the first domestic vehicle comes off the production line, our charging infrastructure will support the use of electric vehicles throughout the country.
It is the first step
We have prepared a comprehensive roadmap to build the charging infrastructure, which is critical for the development of electric vehicles, especially TOGG. In order to mature the charging ecosystem in a short time, we have determined the steps to be taken in important topics such as technical standards, legislative regulations and investment supports. This standard published by TSE constitutes the basis and first step of these studies.
A well-functioning market
It is indispensable for the charging industry, which will become widespread throughout Turkey in a short time and reach a significant size, to have a well-functioning market system. The standards and legislative infrastructure to be created are of great importance in terms of issues such as security, user rights, and the competitive environment. Currently, there is an ongoing legislation and a standard preparation for charging stations. Other relevant arrangements will be made afterwards. This standard, which has been prepared now, is an important step in terms of being the base and precursor of other regulations.
There will be a common language
This standard will also contribute to legislative regulations and conformity assessments. It will help the electric vehicle ecosystem develop rapidly. A common language will be built in technical regulations by ensuring that all stakeholders use the same language. In short, with the widespread use of the standard, the communication of the parties will be facilitated.
